1. An Intercultural Approach to English Language Teaching: Revisited

The idea that language teaching should be intercultural was central to the globally influential 2001 CEFR, it remained influential in the updated 2018 Companion to the CEFR. However, the nature of interculturality, and how it should shape language curricula and language learning, remains a topic of vigorous debate. This talk reflects on the changes the speaker encountered when updating and revising his book, first published in 2003 as an introduction to intercultural language teaching, for a new edition in 2022. What is intercultural language education as we move into the second quarter of the 21st century?

2. Corpus Assisted Translation Studies: An Overview

This talk draws upon the speaker's experience of co-editing a Routledge Handbook on corpus translation studies, to be published later in 2024. It reflects on the impact that the availability and use of corpora have had on translation studies.The talk covers the design and analysis of corpora, and reflects on the kinds of questions that corpus-informed translation studies can attempt to answer. It also anticipates issues relevant to teaching and learning translation not only in the digital age but in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

讲座人简介：

John Corbett 教授，曾任澳门大学人文学院英文系主任，现任北京师范大学-香港浸会大学联合国际学院英语语言文学研究中心主任、人文学院院长，跨文化语言教学国际知名学者，TESOL巴西地区负责人。在语言教学等多个研究领域发表国际权威期刊论文60余篇，出版专著10余部。
